A lowkey coffee roaster in Trunojoyo

#cityplaybook

In Trunojoyo there are quite a few of coffee places with big names, like Toby’s Estate, Seniman etc. But what impressed me in term of coffee is this place.

The ambience was completely lacklustre, almost like a common working place with minimalist decor. However, the business owner was extremely articulate with coffee knowledge. I had a wonderful chat with him regarding to the different single coffee varietal in Indonesia and processing methods.

Here’s a recommendation of coffee for those who love a strong cuppa with fruity goodness. Order their magic, which features double shot in a cappuccino (coffee in Surabaya typically comes with single shot otherwise) at no extra cost, and the result was an intense prominent fruity acidity coming through the coffee.

They also made their own pasta—gnocchi in particular—which taste not as dense as the traditional Italian gnocchi but instead somewhat airy like fried tofu. Pesto sauce was very well made, though I personally found it a tad salty (but it’s my fault of asking for extra pesto).

The tiramisu, on the other hand, had a texture and flavor in between traditional tiramisu and opera, which is tasty but if you comes with a particular expectation, it might not meet it.
