Among all the classical gardens in Suzhou, 留园 (Liuyuan / Lingering Garden) stands out for its artful layout, elegant halls, and a rockery that’s simply unforgettable. It’s no wonder this place is one of China’s Four Great Classical Gardens and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
What I loved most? The garden leads you through a journey — from peaceful courtyards to covered walkways, from water reflections to dramatic rock formations. It feels like the space opens and closes rhythmically, giving you moments of surprise and calm.
🏯 A highlight is the Cloud-Capped Peak (冠云峰) — a towering, porous Taihu rock that draws tons of admiration. Be sure to also check out the bonsai garden — it’s like stepping into a miniature landscape painting.
🚇 How to get there:
• Take Suzhou Metro Line 2
• Alight at Shilu Station (石路站), Exit 1
• Walk about 10 minutes to reach the entrance
🎫 Entrance fee: ~40–55 RMB depending on season
📌 Tips:
• Pair with a visit to nearby Shantang Street (also walkable)
• Come in the morning for softer light and fewer tour groups
• If you love photography, this garden offers excellent roofline symmetry and water reflections
Lingering Garden may not be the largest, but it leaves the deepest impression — the kind that stays with you, just like its name suggests.
