How can you miss Qili Shantang when you come to Suzhou?

Whenever possible, I stay directly in or near the scenic area to experience the scenery up close, both day and night. So, when I arrived at Qili Shantang, I stayed outside Changmen Gate, a mere five-minute walk away.

Qili Shantang, built along the river and also known as Shantang Street, embodies the typical Jiangnan water village style and is known as "Gusu's No. 1 Street." The street preserves ancient buildings, bridges, and alleyways, boasting over 1,200 years of history.

During the day, Qili Shantang is less crowded, making its white walls and black tiles particularly clear. In the evening, Qili Shantang becomes increasingly crowded, with the setting sun tinting the white walls with a hue of orange. At night, the crowds are so intense that certain spots are practically impossible to squeeze into.
