What is it like to spend a night on the summit of Mount Taishan? It feels really great! You can not only watch the sunset, but also the sunrise (weather permitting)! There is a big temperature difference between day and night on Mount Taishan. If you want to watch the sunrise but don't want to stay up all night "camping out on the mountain top," where should you stay?
How to choose a hotel on the summit of Mount Taishan?
Before we went, we also checked the prices and environments of many hotels (usually called guesthouses) and finally chose this Shenqi Hotel. We saw that the rooms were clean and bright in the app, and there were many good reviews. We booked a special-offer room for more than CNY 800. There are only two special-offer rooms per day, so it is best to book in advance if you are sure of the time you are going. The normal price is around CNY 1,400–1,700.
The hotel is right next to Jade Emperor Peak, with three flags in front, so it is easy to recognize. The location is very good. The hotel feels quite high-end when you go in, and the service is okay. The rooms are relatively small, and the beds in the twin rooms are only one meter wide, so it is very compact. The water in the hotel is not mineral water, but spring water that the staff collects from the mountains. I saw a bit of moss in the bottle, so I didn't drink it. Water on Mount Taishan is very expensive. It costs CNY 10 a bottle if you buy it at the hotel. It also costs CNY 5 at the Tianjie shopping area. You can choose for yourself when the time comes. The staff will knock on the door to wake you up to watch the sunrise at dawn, and then take us to their best viewing spot, about a 10-minute walk away.
It is very cold on the top of Mount Taishan at dawn. It costs CNY 50 to rent a down jacket, with a deposit of CNY 100. Since you have to sit and wait for the sunrise, it is recommended to rent one so you don't catch a cold.
I couldn't sleep after 2:00 am, so I went out for a walk. The hotel lobby was full of people sleeping on the floor, at CNY 80 per person. At this moment, with heating and a restroom, it is already very happy. The hotel lobby will not take in too many people. Once the empty space is full, they will stop taking people in. I just feel that we are lucky to have a room.
The summit of Mount Taishan is very lively, with night hikers who have just climbed to the top, couples wearing military coats and hiding in the cracks of the rocks to keep out the cold, and young people eating midnight snacks to replenish their energy. Looking into the distance, the night view of the Meteorological Bureau Hotel is very beautiful. Speaking of this hotel, it has a large terrace dedicated to watching the sunrise, which can only be used by guests staying there. However, their rooms are relatively old and a bit like old homestays. But they are in the best location, the very top of Mount Taishan. The price is generally above CNY 1,200. You can also choose according to your needs.
Although I didn't see the sunrise the next day, I only saw a vast expanse of clouds. But the night I spent on the summit of Mount Taishan was still quite novel. It was worth the trip!
