When you arrive in Taichung's coastal area, don't rush straight to Wuqi Fishing Port. Start by strolling Wuqi Old Street and immerse yourself in this century-old street. Though short, every step along the street tells a story—red brick archways, carved wooden windows, and mottled yet still standing facades silently tell of its former prosperity. This area was once a major commercial settlement from the late Qing Dynasty to the Japanese colonial period. Back then, it thrived on port trade and fishing, and the streets were lined with businesses. Today, many Baroque facades and Minnan-style buildings remain, making walking through it feel like stepping into a time warp.
