Located in the planned Zhengbian New District, Kaifeng West Lake forms a lake-forest ecological landscape connecting the old and new Bianjing districts (Dongjing, Daliang, Bianliang, and Xiangfu). Construction officially began on the Heigangkou Reservoir on October 25, 2010, immediately attracting significant attention. This became Kaifeng West Lake. Water began filling on May 1, 2014, and the first phase of landscaping along the waterfront was completed in 2015. It will soon become another hallmark of beautiful Kaifeng.
Kaifeng's Bian West Lake is a green ecological landscape connecting the old and new urban areas, and a new destination for nature immersion, leisure, and entertainment. Designed with the vision of "highlighting the beauty of West Lake and promoting the spirit of Kaifeng," Kaifeng West Lake fully embodies the project's functions and cultural positioning as "a city living room—a stage for interaction between people and water, and a cultural and historical library—a fusion of history and culture." Adhering to the principles of "integrating Chinese and foreign cultures, focusing on Chinese gardens; integrating the past and the present, focusing on classical gardens; and integrating movement and stillness, with the emphasis on stillness," the design concept and artistic conception embody "royal aura, the lifeblood of the city, a leisure destination, and the charm of Song Dynasty poetry." It showcases the profound connotations of the "New Song Style" urban style and the simple, spacious, elegant, and natural charm of Song Dynasty gardens. Both residents and tourists visiting Kaifeng can enjoy this breathtaking scenery, rivaling Hangzhou's West Lake.
The temperate continental humid climate makes it suitable for travel in all four seasons.
Bianxi Lake, located in Kaifeng's new district west of the city center, covers approximately 6,000 mu (approximately 1,000 acres). Within its thousand-mu (approximately 1,000 acres), the lake boasts a rich tapestry of gardens, landscaped areas, and leisure facilities. Five distinctive bridges, including the Fuxing Bridge, the Dongjing Bridge, and the Zhengkai Bridge, are located here. Thirteen ancient garden structures from the Northern Song Dynasty, including the Kuixing Pavilion, the Qionglin Garden, the Yanbin Building, and the West Courtyard, have been reconstructed. The newly constructed Danqing Garden, now serving as the Kaifeng Museum of Calligraphy and Painting, is a delightful spectacle, with swaying water plants, fluttering waterfowl, and the fragrance of flowers filling the air.

After visiting the lake, taxis or local buses can easily take you to other parts of Kaifeng or nearby cities. The Kaifeng Railway Station offers connections to other destinations in Henan Province.
