Wuqi Cultural Office | The Artistic Rebirth of a Century-Old Japanese-Style Dormitory
Walking near Wuqi Old Street, a tranquil old Japanese wooden house comes into view—this is the Wuqi Cultural Office. Formerly the "Wuqi Office" during the Japanese colonial period, it served as a local administrative office and dormitory. After meticulous restoration, it has been transformed into an art and cultural space that combines historical displays with cultural and creative exhibitions.
The roof is covered with black tiles, the walls are warm wood, and sliding paper sliding doors reveal tatami mats and wooden floors. Sunlight filters in through the lattice windows, and the subtle fragrance of cypress wood blends with the sea breeze, transporting visitors back to the port town of a century ago. The exhibition hall regularly hosts art exhibitions, craft workshops, and local cultural activities, allowing visitors to appreciate the beauty of the ancient architecture while learning about Wuqi's port history and human stories.
