Walking into Taipei's Dadaocheng is like walking into a timeless city memory.
This is not a gorgeous new business district, nor a busy area with tall buildings,
but a gentle old time written between red bricks and incense.
That day I came to Dihua Street on a sunny afternoon, the sun shone on the red brick street,
the voices, fragrance, and wheels intertwined into a sound that "can only be heard here",
and the soul here is probably hidden in two places: Xiahai City God Temple and Yongle Market.
⛩ Xiahai City God Temple: The center of faith in old Taipei, the starting point of love
Xiahai City God Temple is not big, but it is full of incense almost every day.
This is not only the center of faith, but also the starting point of many people's love stories.
It turns out that there is a place in the city where people can settle down.
I also put my hands together, not to find a way out of being single, but just to bless myself and my family with safety.
At that moment, I really believed that the City God was listening.
🧵 Yongle Market: Old-fashioned beauty hidden in daily life
Walk through the temple and you will reach Yongle Market in a few steps.
This place is not as lively as a tourist attraction, but a kind of "locals are used to it".
Downstairs is a traditional market, selling meat, vegetables, dry goods and spices,
Upstairs is a fabric paradise famous throughout Taiwan, with rows of fabrics, lace, embroidery, and custom fabrics.
You will see old tailors, design students, and tourists, all looking for inspiration on the same floor.
The atmosphere of "no matter how the times change, the touch and vision are still there" makes people want to take pictures and stay to live.
📸 Photo Tips:
The incense line and roof silhouette of Xiahai Chenghuang Temple are full of faith
The fabric corner of Yongle Market with natural light is atmospheric and quiet
The old arch and red brick wall between the temple and the market are the most gentle negatives of old Taipei
🚇 What is the most convenient way to get there?
You can take the MRT to Beimen Station and walk about 7 minutes to reach Dihua Street.
You can also walk from Daqiaotou Station and see many well-preserved street houses along the way.
It is recommended to come in the afternoon when the light is the most beautiful and you can also experience the most local appearance of the market before it closes.
