🌾 A Literary Time in a Century-Old Red Brick Building

The Ximen Red Building, built in 1908, is the most complete surviving octagonal red brick building in Taiwan. Formerly a market, the octagonal building was designated a Grade III historical site in 1997 and later transformed into a cultural and arts performance center.

After 2007, the Cross Building (the cross-shaped structure behind the main octagonal building) was transformed into a "designer incubation platform" and a "dream showcase for Taiwanese designers." The front half of the Cross Building was named "Creative 16 Workshop," bringing together dozens of independent and emerging Taiwanese designer brands, providing them with a physical studio and exhibition space. The sweet age of 16 symbolizes youth, vitality, and endless possibilities, imbuing the workshop with a vibrant and ever-growing feel, clearly conveying its image as "a creative workshop community brimming with young creativity and the spirit of craftsmanship."

The Red House is not only a gathering place for creative youth but also an LGBT-friendly landmark, hosting frequent art exhibitions, cultural markets, and small theater performances. At night, the square behind it transforms into Rainbow Bar Street, a bustling nightlife. Whether you visit during the day to admire its architectural beauty or experience the vibrant nightlife of Ximending, the Ximen Red House offers a surprising blend of tradition and modernity.
