On this trip, I eagerly waited for it to get dark so I could see the version of Jiufen everyone's talking about. The moment the red lanterns lit up the small alleys, it felt like the entire town had suddenly transformed. From a quiet mountainside village, it transformed into a world straight out of a Studio Ghibli film.
Walking down the narrow stone steps, the path was lined with teahouses, cafes, and souvenir shops. Every corner was a must-have photo opportunity. The fragrant scent of tea wafted through the air, adding to the mellow atmosphere.
I chose to sit in an old teahouse, looking out the window at the rows of red lanterns descending the steps, overlooking the twinkling city below. It felt both romantic and warm at the same time.
💡 Tip:
• Visit in the early evening to witness both the fading natural light and the newly lit red lanterns.
• Don't forget to try the local snacks and oolong tea here. It was delicious and fragrant.
• Bring a light jacket, as the wind up the mountain is cooler than down below.
✨ Conclusion:
Jiufen at night exudes a charm that photos can't fully convey. You have to be there yourself to truly understand why so many people love this red lantern village.
