After breakfast at the hotel, visit Daohe Ancient Street, an important historical and cultural district in the center of Taizhou. It has a strong atmosphere of antique buildings and usually has few tourists.
The ancient district was formed in the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties and has a history of more than 600 years. It is the largest group of ancient buildings in Taizhou. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Taizhou became a distribution center for agricultural products in the Lixia River area. Many grain stores, oil mills, and warehouses were set up along the Dao River and Cao River, forming a neighborhood style of "small bridges, flowing water, and people's homes."
Daohe Ancient Street is famous for its "water-street-alley, alley-courtyard" waterside residential style and the "two streets sandwiching a river" river street model. The folk houses here are simple and elegant, reflecting the unique architectural characteristics of Thai folk houses, such as "black tiles, gray walls and blue brick floors", "Peak Peak", "left and right", etc. The ancient district is open all day and no tickets are required. Visitors can experience Taizhou’s traditional snacks, antiques, calligraphy and painting, tea ceremony and other cultures here. There is also the "Chinese Ancient Well Museum" which contains the ruins of ancient wells in the neighborhood.
