A Local Day in Takamatsu – Gardens, Udon & a Castle-like Dam

#cityplaybook

Takamatsu is full of quiet charm and scenic surprises—and a perfect place to slow down and explore at your own pace. From peaceful gardens to iconic noodles and even a dam that looks like a castle, it’s a day full of contrast and discovery.

I started my morning at Ritsurin Garden, one of Japan’s most celebrated traditional gardens. I headed straight to the wasen (wooden boat) dock and grabbed a ticket for the 9:30 ride. Gliding through the water gave me a whole new perspective—the reflections, the stillness, the views… truly unforgettable.

For lunch, I had to try Tamoya, a local favorite for Sanuki udon. Chewy, fresh, and comforting—this is what coming to Kagawa is all about.

In the afternoon, I ventured out to Honenike Dam. I had seen photos, but standing in front of it was something else. With its stone arches and majestic structure, it really did feel like discovering a hidden castle. You can even climb up for a closer look!

Why I recommend Takamatsu:
・It’s a relaxed, scenic city with both natural beauty and cultural depth
・You’ll find stunning views and amazing food—all without the crowds
