Shikoku Trip|Setouchi Island Hopping Mock Exam: Megijima + Ogijima

🌊 Finally arrived at the triennial Setouchi Triennale!
For the first island hopping stop,
we chose the easier one-day tour of Megijima + Ogijima.
Here’s a timeline for reference (during National Day holiday)
🔆 There are no exhibitions outside the festival period, only half a month left.

👺 Megijima p1-13
Arrived at Takamatsu Port around 9:30, waited a short time to buy tickets.
10:00 Boarded the ferry to Megijima, about 20 minutes.
10:00-12:20 Quick tour of Megijima.
12:20 Boarded the ferry to Ogijima.
The spots are relatively concentrated. After getting off the boat, we saw the [Seagull Parking Lot] and [Piano Sailboat], then walked into the residential area to see [Absent Presence] and [Megijima Famous Picture Theater]. Next, we visited the elementary school and shopping street, where many works are clustered together. After viewing, you can grab some food and drinks before lining up to board the ferry to Ogijima. The whole route is easy to walk. If you want to see the cave attraction, there won’t be enough time to catch the 12:20 ferry to Ogijima. The works on Megijima are very interactive, many are immersive and participatory, making people very happy and feeling the trip was worthwhile.

👺 Ogijima p14-17
12:40 Arrived at Ogijima.
15:00 Boarded the ferry back to Takamatsu.
It was the hottest time of day. Ogijima has a steep overall slope with many stairs to climb. The exhibitions are scattered in small residential houses, and it gets crowded. The overall experience was less comfortable than Megijima. We roughly toured according to the official map. Maybe because it was too hot, there weren’t many cats on the road. There are actually many beautiful pictures, but I can’t include them all here. The experience outweighs the visuals.

🔆 Although Megijima and Ogijima can be done in one day, if you want to slowly see all the attractions and works, it’s recommended to allow more time. Personally, I think the first island hopping stop is very suitable, and as you get more skilled, you can challenge Naoshima and Teshima next.
