📍Takaoka Great Buddha, Toyama Copperware A seated statue of Amida Nyorai, known as the most beautiful man in Japan, is a symbol of Takaoka, the number one copperware in Japan. The bronze seated statue of Amida Nyorai, "Takaoka Great Buddha," at Daibutsu-ji Temple in Takaoka City, is 16 meters tall. It was completed over a period of 26 years from 1907, bringing together the best of local copperware manufacturing techniques, and is one of the three great Buddhas of Etchu, along with Kosugi Great Buddha and Shogawa Great Buddha. It is said to have begun about 800 years ago, when Minamoto no Yoshikatsu, who became a monk in Etchu to avoid the Jōkyū War, built a wooden Great Buddha. It has been in danger of falling into ruin and being burned down many times, but it has been rebuilt repeatedly due to the wishes of the people and has taken on its current form! There are also charms and red seals at the shrine office.
