Japan Toyama Takaoka Sanseki

#SeptemberDestinations2025
Takaoka is located in Toyama Prefecture, Japan, just one Shinkansen stop from Toyama Station. However, compared to Toyama City, it's much less crowded, making it a relatively off-the-beaten-path destination. Without the hustle and bustle of tourists, it's a perfect place to slowly savor this small city.

The Takaoka Great Buddha stands approximately 15 meters tall and is truly magnificent. Along with the Great Buddha of Nara and the Great Buddha of Kamakura, Takaoka is considered one of Japan's three great Buddha statues, holding immense historical and cultural significance.

There's also a Doraemon promenade near Takaoka Station where you can take photos with the adorable figures. 👍

If you have time, take the Toyama Prefecture's Johata and Himi Lines. Enjoy the scenic beauty of Toyama's mountains and sea along the way, and explore all the way from Takaoka to Himi.

🚂Access: Approximately a 10-minute walk from JR Takaoka Station.

Transfer from Shin-Takaoka Station to JR Takaoka Station, a 10-minute walk.
