Takayama Miyagawa Morning Market is located along the picturesque Miyagawa River, about a 10-minute walk from Takayama Station. This historic market has been in operation since the Edo period and still retains its traditional market atmosphere.
The market mainly sells fresh local fruits and vegetables, pickles, miso, and other Hida specialties. There are plenty of breakfast options, including freshly grilled egg whites, handmade rice balls, and Hida beef. Seasonal fruits and agricultural products are available throughout the year, with Hida apples being particularly recommended in winter.
Basic Information:
Business Hours: 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Closed: Some shops are closed on Wednesdays
Payment Methods: Mostly cash only
Location: Along the Miyagawa River, adjacent to the old town of Takayama
The market is small but well-equipped, offering everything from traditional ingredients to handicrafts. It is recommended to visit between 7-8 AM to enjoy the freshness of the morning market and avoid the busiest tourist crowds. Be sure to dress warmly in winter, as many stalls are outdoors ❄️
