Coming to the Takayama Hida region of Gifu Prefecture is like walking into an ancient painting. It retains a strong Edo style and is one of the most humane and historical towns in central Japan. A one-day trip here is relaxing, in-depth and healing.
Morning: Takayama Morning Market × Stroll along the Miyagawa River
The journey starts from the lively and lovely Miyagawa Morning Market, where small farmers and artisan stalls are lined up along the river, where you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables, Hida beef jerky, handmade miso and local specialties. The air is fresh in the morning, and you can take a walk along the river and watch the carps swimming leisurely.
Middle section: Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine & Takayama Jinya Tour
After the morning market, we walked into the religious center of Takayama - Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine. With towering ancient trees and a tranquil atmosphere, it is the main stage for the Autumn Takayama Festival. Next, you can visit Takayama Jinya, the only "magistrate's office" left over from the Edo period, where you can get a glimpse into the real life of the samurai who governed the people.
Afternoon: Nostalgic tour of Sanmachi Old Street × Hida beef lunch
The afternoon is the main venue for Sanmachi Old Street! There are quaint townhouses, long-standing miso breweries, Japanese grocery stores and Japanese-style cafes everywhere. Why not try the legendary Hida beef sushi or charcoal-grilled skewers here, as well as local snacks such as chestnut wagashi and soy sauce dango.
The overall walking distance is not far, which is suitable for strolling and exploring. It is also very suitable for photography and shopping, and you can take pictures of the warm moments of time.
