🏯 [Yumoto Choza | 湯元長座] – A real ryokan experience where the charm and healing of Japanese tradition come alive

My husband found this ryokan by chance.

It was so satisfying that I felt like I had to revisit it after 5 years, even though I had worked so hard to find it.

Highly recommended if you need the depth of Japanese tradition and quiet relaxation!

🚉 Location & Transportation (From Chubu Centrair International Airport)

Chubu Centrair International Airport → Meitetsu Nagoya (Limited Express 37 minutes / Recommended for Klook purchase)

Nagoya → Takayama Bus Center (Bus 2 hours 30 minutes)

Takayama → Fukuji Yurimizaka Station (Bus approx. 1 hour / Get off and arrive at the ryokan)

📝 Total time: 4 hours 30 minutes / Traffic is complicated, but if I go again, it's worth it.

🛏️ Ryokan atmosphere & rooms

100% traditional Japanese, full of emotion even in every piece of furniture

Various space configurations: telephone room, dining room, fireplace, meeting room, etc.

The room is warm, and you can also see the garden from the outside space (but be careful of the cold in winter!)

There is no hot spring in the bedroom, but you can use the public hot spring to wash

♨️ Hot spring

3 private baths inside, 4~5 private baths outside, 1 public bath for each gender

The outdoor hot spring is more like a private resting place than a place to enjoy the scenery

The inside bath is large + comfortable temperature + external connection → very satisfied

🍱 Food – This is the real jackpot point!

The menu was different for 3 nights and 4 days.

Essential composition + satisfactory amount

**Hida milk (provided in the morning hallway)** is a must-try!

Coffee is also top-notch (450 yen), different from the usual ryokan coffee

All meals are in the room, no encounters with other guests (completely private!)

💁♀️ Service & Visitor Composition

Most staff are friendly / 1-2 English speakers / Papago available

Visitors: Mainly Chinese & Japanese / Almost no Caucasians or Koreans

Since it is near a ski resort, there are many ski travelers in the winter season

📝 Tips

The entire room is quite cold in the winter (layers of yukata are essential)

No convenience stores or marts nearby

Cards are not accepted for less than 5,000 yen, so prepare cash

Recommended items to bring: snacks, sake, ice wine, coffee sticks, etc.

💬 Overall Review (★★★★★ out of ★★★★☆)

✅ Quiet and private traditional ryokan
✅ Different, heartfelt meals every day
✅ Traditional building and furniture with a lot of emotion
✅ English available / A hidden gem for foreigners Ryokan

🚫 It's really cold in winter
🚫 The traffic is complicated, but if I go again, I won't regret it
