Guizhou Guanling Fossil Group National Geopark, located in Guanling Buyi and Miao Autonomous County in the southwest of Guizhou Province , is known as the world's unique treasure trove of marine reptiles and sea lily fossils from the Late Triassic.
The paleontological fossils buried here were formed in the bay during the Triassic period 220 million years ago. They mainly include marine reptiles such as ichthyosaurs, sea dragons, fin dragons, and shield-toothed dragons. In addition, there are various sea lilies and ammonites, bivalves, conodonts, nautiluses, brachiopods and ancient plant fossils.
The Guanling paleontological fossils , especially the marine reptile fossils and sea lily fossils, are so huge in number, diverse in species, beautifully preserved, and peculiar in form that they are rarely seen in the same period strata around the world and are considered world-class.
