When you come to Sankaku Saiko Park, don't miss this elegant Western-style building "Urashinaya". This hotel, which was restored from the Meiji period, is not only a resting place for travelers in the past, but also a literary landmark full of stories because the literary giant Koizumi Lafcadio Hearn once stayed here and left a description in his travelogue "Summer Dream".
It is speculated that it was designed by the famous architect Hidenosuke Koyama (who also participated in the design of Nagasaki Oura Catholic Church and Grabar Residence). The restored building of Urashimaya retains fresh and elegant colors and Western-style details. Entering the building, the white walls and mint green woodwork set off a charming Meiji atmosphere. It is not only an exhibition space, but also a great place for travelers to relax and take photos. Looking out from the second-floor window, it seems like being in a foreign country, and the tranquility reveals a nostalgic atmosphere.
The first floor of the museum displays historical materials related to the construction of Sankaku Saiko, and the second floor adds Koizumi Lafcadio Hearn's documents and life records. There are also seats for travelers to rest, and you can also ask for surrounding guide information. Whether you want to learn about history, take commemorative photos, or find a corner to quietly enjoy the harbor view, Urashima is a must-visit highlight.
