Daio-ji Temple is one of the many temples along the Higashiyama Walking Trail in Hida Takayama. After visiting Unryu-ji Temple and Hakusan Shrine, you can take a leisurely stroll to Daio-ji Temple. Along Kokubunji Street, you'll spot the majestic Sanmon Gate. Located at the top of a stone staircase, this multi-tiered gate has been designated as a cultural property of Gifu Prefecture and showcases the craftsmanship of Hida artisans. Within the temple grounds, there is also a small bell tower.

Daio-ji Temple has a significant history. It was established during the Edo period when Takayama became a direct territory of the shogunate, serving as the family temple of Tokugawa Ieyasu in Hida Province.
