Takayama, Japan: Every restaurant is delicious! A healing journey of Hida beef and ancient streets

📍Visit Spot: Takayama Old Street (Sannomachi-dori and Ninomachi-dori, Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture)

The most surprising experience in Takayama: No need to search for restaurants; just walk into any place with a "Hida Beef" sign and you'll be treated to a truly amazing meal! This small town, nicknamed "Little Kyoto," has instilled the flavor of premium beef into its streets and alleys. ✨

Start by exploring Takayama Old Street! Hidden within Sannomachi-dori are numerous small shops serving Hida Beef Nigiri Sushi. The seared beef's fat seeps into the rice, creating a delicious and savory flavor. Freshly grilled Hida Beef skewers, with a slightly charred exterior and tender interior, are a perfect snack after a long day.

That evening, we tried BBQ at the other end of the old street. We ordered the "Hida Beef Five-Point Set." The beef tongue, short ribs, and diaphragm were grilled over charcoal until the edges were slightly charred. The meat's juices splattered as you bit into it. The fat's low melting point made the texture incredibly tender and effortless. It was truly melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Even those who normally avoid getting too much of it couldn't resist ordering a second helping. Paired with the local sake, it was pure bliss.

💡 Tips:
✅ The Hida Beef lunch set menu offers the best value. For 5,000 yen per person, you can enjoy A5-grade beef, a much better deal than the dinner set.
✅ Shirakawa-go is a one-hour bus ride from Takayama. It's recommended for a connecting trip, making it a convenient day trip.

Why recommend it? There's no need to worry about disappointments here. The readily available delicacies, the leisurely streets, and the warm hospitality create the perfect atmosphere for a relaxing trip. The aroma of Hida beef mixed with the woodsy scent of the old streets is Takayama's most moving memory.
