~Explore Takehara's History~
Takehara is said to have prospered due to the salt fields that were developed in the early Edo period.
The houses from that time are preserved as the "Takehara City Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings."
The Townscape Preservation Center also provides video commentary on the townscape and its history.
The townscape preservation district is right in front of you, so walking through the town after learning here will give you a whole new perspective.
You can also learn about the interior structures of old houses that you've only previously seen from the outside, so be sure to visit.
*Information current as of March 2024.
