Taroko National Park in Hualien

Taroko National Park is the fourth national park established in Taiwan (1937-1945). After World War II, it became a national scenic area. The plan was announced on November 12, 1986, and the management office was established on November 28, 1986. Located in the eastern part of Taiwan, it spans three administrative regions: Hualien County, Taichung City, and Nantou County. The park has Taiwan’s first east-west highway, known as the Central Cross-Island Highway System, passing through it.

Taroko National Park is characterized by canyons and cliffs, with steep cliffs and quiet scenery. Therefore, "Taroko Gorge" is listed as one of the eight scenic spots in Taiwan. In addition, the alpine areas of the park have preserved many relicts from the Ice Age, such as the salamander.
