Pamir Plateau - Roof of Central Asia

The Pamir Plateau stretches across Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and China. A border pass is required to visit eastern China-administered areas.
The Pamir Plateau is at a high altitude and has thin air, so some people may experience altitude sickness. However, the oxygen content in the Pamirs is higher than in other plateau areas, so the chance of developing altitude sickness is relatively low and the symptoms are milder. If you have never been to high altitude areas, Pamir is a great place to start.
