Mount Tateyama, Toyama Prefecture's most famous peak, stands 3,015 meters above sea level and is one of Japan's 100 most famous mountains. Long known as a sacred mountain, it's dotted with mystical sites like Jigokudani and sacred sites. Climbing the mountain is typically done from Murodo, located along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. The well-maintained hiking trails make it easy even for beginners.
From Murododaira, a popular traverse route leads from Mt. Oyama to Mt. Onnagi to Fujinooritate. Along the way, you'll find the main shrine of Tateyama Shrine, where you'll feel a sense of accomplishment and a sacred atmosphere. If you're lucky, you might even spot a Japanese ptarmigan and alpine plants.
🍴After descending the mountain, we recommend soothing yourself at Mikurigaike Onsen, a hot spring on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. The sulfurous scent and milky white waters will gently envelop you in the climbing fatigue.
📌 Useful Information
Access: From Tateyama Station, take the Tateyama Cable Car → Highland Bus to Murodo (approximately 1.5 hours)
Climbing Season: June–October
Equipment: Cold weather gear, rain gear, snacks, and hiking boots are required
Experience the luxury of walking above the clouds on the sacred mountain of Tateyama, where the gods reside! ✨
