Short hiking in Tbilisi

Visiting Narikala Fortress is still worth it even though the main part is closed for reconstruction in summer 2025. I walked up there anyway because the view alone makes the climb worthwhile. You can take the winding path from the old town or cheat a bit and ride the cable car up (though walking down is nicer in my opinion).
Even though you can't go inside the fortress walls right now, standing next to it gives you that same ancient fortress feeling. The real highlight is the panoramic view over all of Tbilisi - you can see the river winding through the city, the modern bridge, and all the colorful rooftops below. It's especially beautiful around sunset when the whole city turns golden.
The walk up takes about 20-30 minutes from Meidan Square, with some steep parts but nothing too difficult. There are a few spots to stop and catch your breath along the way. Just wear good shoes and bring water if it's hot. Even with the reconstruction, this remains one of the best spots in Tbilisi for photos and getting your bearings of the city layout. The small church next to the fortress is still accessible too if you want to peek inside.
