Similian Islands: Tourist Trap or Heavenly?

There are plenty of great beaches and places to snorkel around the coast of Thailand, especially in Phuket. With so many islands to choose from, so many destinations losing their unspoilt charm, how do you know if the Similian Islands are for you?
Firstly, get ready for a long day. If you’re staying in Karon or Kata or can take over two hours just to get to the pier - longer on the return trip as you may hit traffic. This journey means many group pick ups start at 6:00am and you won’t get back to your hotel until late in the evening.
Secondly, remember that Thailand is a popular tourist destination and the once idyllic, quiet little pieces of heaven are now well known to all, so yes, it will be busy.
Thirdly, (and this is a personal one) if you’re gonna go on a snorkeling tour, please be respectful and cautious of the marine life including the coral. Too much of our beautiful underwater world is being devastated by irresponsible tourism.
If you can handle that then the Similian Islands are worth a visit. Snorkeling here is some of the best you can find in Thailand if not in Asia. Take a moment away from taking selfies and APPRECIATE the beauty both on land and underwater.
