The other day I went to the Matisse exhibition that I had been interested in. The Matisse Museum in Nice, southern France, where Matisse spent the latter half of his life, is on display. Works donated to the city of Nice by Matisse himself and his heirs are on display.
This is a special exhibition where you can view about 150 works and documents, including paintings, sculptures, prints, textiles, etc., focusing on paper cutting, with a focus on works from the collection of the Matisse Museum in Nice.

The works show how Matisse experimented with various techniques throughout his life.

The most notable is the technique of "paper cutting," in which colored paper is cut with scissors and pasted onto paper.

You can enjoy Blue Nude IV, a representative example of paper cutting, and the 4x8m masterpiece Flowers and Fruits, which will be shown in Japan for the first time.

At the end of the exhibition, there is a space where you can experience the Rosary Chapel in Vence, a suburb of Nice, which is the culmination of Matisse's art, where Matisse applied paper cutting to the interior decoration of buildings and priest's vestments in his final years.

The light made me feel the hectic flow of the day. You can enjoy it until May 27th Same-day tickets are 2200 yen from the official website
