I took a walk through Tokyo’s Shiba area from dusk to night on a spring Sunday.
Sneakers are a must! This long route is also recommended for cycling and jogging. Discover the spirit of mutual aid and peace that supported the postwar reconstruction of the glamorous Minato Ward, as well as the geography from the Jomon period.

From JR Tamachi Station, stop by Keio University, then walk straight along the Toei Mita Line toward Onarimon.

Walk up Kiritoshi Hill, passing the Embassy of the Netherlands, Shiba Gakuen Junior and Senior High School, Saiwai Inari Shrine, and Shiba Water Supply Park, heading to St. Alban’s Church. This area is quiet with many embassies, private schools, and companies, offering a rare environment in the city center where you can also enjoy sports.

🏖️ Atmosphere/Facilities: Charity activities; the foundation’s website recruits scholarship recipients annually. The lodge holds the Masonic Children’s Festival around the third week of May every year, where families of members from Japan and worldwide interact. Currently under reconstruction.

🏖️ Atmosphere/Facilities: A vast park surrounding Zojoji Temple, featuring Shibamaruyama Kofun, Momijidani (Maple Valley), Plum Garden, Children’s Peace Tower, Admiral Perry Statue, tennis courts, ward-operated sports facilities, and Omotenashi Garden.
“One of Japan’s oldest parks. In 1873, by the Daijokan proclamation, five locations including Ueno, Asakusa, Fukagawa, Asukayama, and Shiba were designated as Japan’s first parks, pioneering park development thereafter.”

Heading east from the Iikura intersection, Higashi-Azabu is an area with many embassies, high-end restaurants, delivery-only eateries, and professional recording studios. Walk toward Azabudai Hills and return via Kamiyacho Station on the Metro Hibiya Line.
