One of the izakayas in Omoide Yokocho is called Yasubee Bekkan (Yasubee Annex). This is the annex, and the main building is said to be nearby.
It’s already a famous spot among foreigners, so this alley was filled with foreign tourists rather than locals.
Even on a Thursday evening, there were hardly any empty seats, and the sake cans in small transparent cans looked pretty, so we waited a bit and went in.
This restaurant had a notably higher proportion of locals compared to other places.
We came in because of the pretty sake cans, but seeing draft beer being enjoyed at other tables, we automatically ordered Asahi draft beer as well, which was indeed very smooth and refreshing.
With one menu item and one drink per person, we ordered two beers, an oden set, and udon. The total, including seat charges, came to 4,070 yen.
The taste was less sweet than the oden we usually think of, but the various textures of the oden were unique and delicious. The udon portion was smaller than expected, and it shared the same broth as the oden. The weather was a bit chilly, so it was the perfect snack.
The sake cans were also diverse, pretty, and unique. Generally, when you think of sake, you imagine it in a fancy bottle, but having it in cans with designs full of Japanese charm made it feel much more approachable.
Still, for me, Asahi draft beer is the quintessential Japanese drink.
