#TokyoCherryBlossoms
I've been to Japan many times but never seen cherry blossoms. This year, I made up my mind to take a chance and avoid being a cherry blossom refugee.
Before going, I researched various 🌸 forecasts and finally booked my flight. Who would have thought the weather this year would be so strange and changeable? It started cold, then rapidly warmed up, only to suddenly cool down again with rain. Although the cherry blossoms basically bloomed on time, after the wind and rain, the blossoms felt somewhat scattered.
This time, I chose Tokyo as the cherry blossom viewing spot. Japan’s cherry blossoms bloom in waves. After arriving in Tokyo, I found that the first wave of weeping cherry blossoms had basically withered, so I didn’t go to Rikugien Garden. Instead, I conservatively chose Ueno Park, Meguro River night cherry blossoms, Chidorigafuchi, and Shinjuku Gyoen.
If I were to rank them, I think Shinjuku Gyoen is the most beautiful, followed by Chidorigafuchi and Meguro River tied, with Ueno Park a bit below expectations. Unfortunately, due to tight timing, I didn’t visit Roppongi. From online photos, it should be similar to Chidorigafuchi. I hope to have the chance to come again next year.
The reason I call it being a refugee is mainly because of the bad weather. At the first stop, Meguro River night cherry blossoms, it drizzled all day with occasional strong winds. Walking to the spot and facing a sea of people, I was already exhausted.
Later, I deliberately arranged a whole day for cherry blossom viewing, but it turned out to be the coldest day, even colder than when I came to Tokyo last December. The cherry blossoms were beautiful, the crowds were many, the sky was gloomy, and I was freezing numb. Looking back at the photos, I felt my face looked changed from the cold, showing an inexplicable puffiness.
My favorite cherry blossoms were at Shinjuku Gyoen, especially that gradient cherry blossom tree. I had never seen such a large 🌸 before. One tree created a whole cherry blossom forest, truly spectacular.
Besides the already withered weeping cherry blossoms mentioned earlier, this time I also saw Kawazu cherry blossoms, pale pink Yoshino cherry blossoms, deep pink Fukurokuju cherry blossoms, white Oshima cherry blossoms, and more, showcasing various cherry blossom varieties and their blooming times in the Kanto region.
Cherry blossoms are really beautiful, but unfortunately, the sky didn’t cooperate. I didn’t enjoy the viewing as much this time. I hope to have the chance to come again next year. Looking forward to it!
