🏛️[Marunouchi Meiji Seimei Building] A quiet time travel into Showa Modern.
Marunouchi, Tokyo. On a main street lined with skyscrapers,
stands a quietly dignified, beautiful white stone building.
That is the Meiji Seimei Building, completed in 1934 (Showa 9).
Designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan,
this building feels like stepping back in time to a Western-style mansion of the early Showa period.
⸻
🪞Step inside and you are greeted by dazzling white marble,
an exquisite chandelier, a spiral staircase,
heavy wooden doors, and classic furniture.
After the war, it was even used as the GHQ headquarters,
and it’s surprising that part of the interior is still open to the public for free!
⸻
📸 Photography is allowed (quietly and with manners),
making it a hidden gem in Tokyo for travelers who want to enjoy a retro space
and architecture enthusiasts alike.
⸻
⏰Opening hours: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (last entry at 4:30 PM)
📅Open on weekdays only (closed on weekends and holidays; check the official website for details)
🎟️Free admission!
*As of June 2025, some exterior walls are under renovation, so viewing areas are limited (interior is open as usual)
⸻
A place in modern Tokyo where you can quietly face Showa Modern.
Why not take a moment during your sightseeing to slowly touch the past?
