SKWAT KAMEARI ART CENTRE (SKAC), a brand-new cultural hub in Kameari, Tokyo, is cleverly nestled beneath an elevated railway line. Designed by the design firm Daikei Mills, SKAC embodies its "occupying space" philosophy, transforming unused urban space into a hub where creativity and life intersect.
Spanning approximately 2,200 square meters, SKAC is constructed from an industrial-style, single-tube structure, preserving its original texture while incorporating flexibility. It features a variety of unique venues, including VDS TOKYO SHOP, a popular London vinyl store offering a curated selection of used records from around the world; twelvebooks, an art bookstore showcasing modern art and photography; and a café with playful seating.
SKAC is more than just a shopping or exhibition space; it is a community platform where art, music, and design blend seamlessly into everyday life. Whether locals, art enthusiasts, or travelers seeking inspiration, there's a place for everyone. Kameari retains a rich, down-to-earth feel, and SKAC injects a vibrant, yet edgy, cultural pulse into the neighborhood.
