⸻
Foundation and Philosophy
Established in 2006, it is positioned within the Student Affairs Division, not the International Affairs Division, and aims to promote natural exchange between international and Japanese students.
At the time of its founding, the number of participants was approximately 3,000, but has now grown to over 16,000. It has grown into a hub supported by a wide range of students.
⸻
Major Activities
• Student-led planning and management of approximately 200 diverse events per year.
• Language cafes and language lunches
• Country festivals (introductions to international cultures)
• Field trips and international student exchange camps, etc.
• For example, the "Japan-China-Korea Honne Exchange Camp" provides an opportunity for students to openly discuss issues of cultural friction and overcome prejudice.
• At the "No-Border Ski & Snowboard Camp," students interact without revealing their names or origins, fostering unbiased friendships.
⸻
Student Staff Leader System
ICC is run by Student Staff Leaders (SSLs). They are responsible for event planning, management, public relations, and counter support, cultivating leadership, social skills, and intercultural communication abilities.
Currently, approximately 20 students from seven countries are active, supported by six staff members.
Training for student staff and the ICC Alumni Association (an organization for alumni) are also available, helping to build long-term networks.
⸻
Location & Facilities
ICC is located on the first floor of Building 55N on the Nishi-Waseda Campus. It features a lounge space where students can gather freely.
It's usually open Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, making it a convenient place to meet up, work, and socialize.
Most events are free to attend and no membership registration is required, making it even more convenient.
