Meguro River, located in Tokyo's Meguro and Setagaya districts, is one of Tokyo's most renowned cherry blossom viewing spots and has been selected as one of the "100 Famous Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan." Stretching along approximately 4 kilometers of riverbanks, around 800 Somei Yoshino cherry trees bloom in spring (late March to early April), creating a continuous pink floral corridor. The blossoms reflect beautifully on the river's surface, forming one of Tokyo's most iconic springtime scenes. At night, the illumination events transform Meguro River into a dreamy stream of light, with cherry blossoms glowing under the lights, attracting countless visitors and photography enthusiasts. Cafes and restaurants along the river offer picnic options for cherry blossom viewing, adding a leisurely vibe. Strolling by the riverside during the night sakura season allows you to experience the romantic charm of spring nights in the city.
Transportation: From Tokyo Station, take the JR Yamanote Line to "Meguro Station" or "Gotanda Station," then walk about 5 minutes. Alternatively, from the Tokyu Toyoko Line "Nakameguro Station," it's about a 3-minute walk. The riverside walkway is open to the public for free and can be visited all day, with night sakura illuminations usually lasting until 9:00 PM. Visiting on weekday evenings or early mornings is recommended to avoid weekend crowds and quietly enjoy the poetic beauty of cherry blossoms intertwined with flowing water.
