Ueno Onshi Park, located in the heart of Tokyo, is one of the city's most historically and culturally rich parks and a representative site among the "100 Famous Autumn Foliage Spots in Japan." During autumn (mid-November to early December), the park's approximately 800 maple and ginkgo trees burst into vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow, complementing the museums, art galleries, and Shinobazu Pond within the park. The autumn leaves, set against the backdrop of the traditional five-story pagoda or the lakeside pathways, attract visitors to stroll and enjoy the scenery or take a boat ride on the lake. The nighttime illumination events further enhance the beauty of the foliage, creating a magical atmosphere.
Transportation: From Tokyo Station, take the JR Yamanote Line or Keihin-Tohoku Line to "Ueno Station," and it's about a 2-minute walk to the park. The park is open to the public for free all day, though certain areas like museums or the zoo require separate admission fees. During the autumn foliage season, nighttime illumination typically lasts until 9:00 PM. Visiting on weekday mornings or evenings is recommended to avoid weekend crowds and to quietly enjoy the harmony of autumn leaves and the urban skyline.
