In 2015, Blue Bottle Coffee from the United States made its debut in Japan, not in Ginza, Shinjuku, or the bustling areas of Harajuku and Shibuya, but in Kiyosumi Shirakawa, Koto Ward. This marked the beginning of a cluster of unique coffee shops in Kiyosumi Shirakawa, turning it into a competitive coffee hub.
With its white exterior and the iconic blue bottle logo, the store catches the eye of passersby. Even after ten years and over twenty stores across Japan, this location remains incredibly popular. At around 11 a.m., a time when coffee shops are usually less crowded, this store is still packed. The interior features a bright industrial design with spacious dimensions, large glass windows for natural light, and a wooden coffee bar, exuding a youthful yet distinctive vibe.
You can choose to sit at the bar to enjoy the performance and aroma of hand-drip coffee. Unlike Starbucks, which constantly introduces new coffee cup designs, Blue Bottle keeps its cup selection simple. Their stainless steel travel mug with the blue bottle logo on a white base remains a favorite—I've had one for three years, and it still looks almost brand new.
If you're in a hurry, don't worry. There's a vending machine outside the store selling coffee beans, so you can enjoy them at home at your own pace.
