Set within the elegant former residence of Prince Asaka, the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum is a masterpiece of Art Deco design, where the architecture itself feels like part of the exhibition.

Currently on view is “Forging Light — A Dialogue of Iron and Glass,” a collaborative exhibition by sculptor Noe Aoki and glass artist Ritsue Mishima. Through two contrasting materials — iron and glass — the artists explore the relationship between light, transparency, and space, creating a delicate yet powerful harmony that transforms the museum’s interiors.

Aoki’s iron sculptures express the strength and rhythm of form, while Mishima’s glass works capture and scatter light, shifting with every movement and angle. Together, they weave a meditative experience that bridges solidity and fragility, structure and air.

The setting of the Asaka Palace, with its intricate ironwork, stained glass, and geometric detailing, deepens the dialogue — making this exhibition a celebration of material beauty and timeless craftsmanship.
