Jujutsu Kaisen: Nihonbashi - The Winged Kirin🪽

🌉 Tokyo

Historical Center: During the Edo period, this area served as the starting point of the "Five Highways" (major routes connecting Edo to various regions) and was the origin point for measuring road distances across Japan.

Commercial and Financial Hub: Today, Nihonbashi remains a significant commercial and financial district. The headquarters of the Bank of Japan and the Tokyo Stock Exchange are located here.

Fusion of Old and New: Nihonbashi retains many historic shops while also featuring modern commercial facilities like COREDO Muromachi and Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, perfectly blending tradition with modernity.

Iconic Landmark: Nihonbashi itself is an elegant stone arch bridge built during the Meiji era. The elevated highway above the bridge is planned to be removed in the future to restore the riverside view.

"Nihonbashi #" refers to the winged Kirin statue located on the Nihonbashi Bridge. This statue, with its wings, symbolizes "taking flight from Nihonbashi," as the bridge is the starting point of Japan's national highways and the Five Highways.

This iconic statue is also a central clue and significant location in the novel "The Wings of the Kirin," where the story begins with a stabbing incident beneath the Kirin statue.

Kirin Statue
Location: At the center of Nihonbashi Bridge, adorning both sides of the bronze streetlights.
Design Concept: The Kirin is a mythical creature traditionally depicted without wings, but the Kirin statue on Nihonbashi is given wings to represent the hope of "taking flight from Nihonbashi" to all parts of Japan.
Sculptural Details: In addition to the Kirin, the bridge features lions symbolizing prosperity and plant reliefs like pine and hackberry, reflecting the traditional mile markers from the Edo period.
