Walking Across the Rainbow Bridge – A Unique Tokyo Experience

Most people cross the famous Rainbow Bridge in Tokyo by car or on the Yurikamome Line, but did you know there’s also a pedestrian walkway? I finally had the chance to experience it on foot—and it was even more enjoyable than I expected.

To access the walkway, you enter a small building near the base of the bridge and take the elevator up to the 7th floor. From there, you can begin your walk across this iconic bridge. It’s a two-level structure, with the expressway on the upper deck and the regular road, Yurikamome Line, and pedestrian path on the lower one.

Walking the bridge gives you a totally new perspective on Tokyo Bay. The views of the skyline, Tokyo Tower, and Odaiba are simply stunning. In the second half of the bridge, there are sections with open fencing—no glass or solid barriers—which makes the view even more impressive and immersive.

It’s a peaceful and scenic walk that I highly recommend, especially on a clear day. You’ll rediscover the city from above the bay, step by step.
