A beginner-friendly route popular among foreign tourists
The historic Nakasendo Trail connecting Edo and Kyoto during the Edo period
Offers beautiful mountain scenery and peaceful atmosphere
Transportation Guide:
1. Take JR from Nagoya to Nakatsugawa, then transfer to a bus
2. Direct bus from Meitetsu Nagoya Bus Terminal (departs hourly in the morning, bus station is upstairs from Meitetsu Department Store)
3. From Tsumago-juku, take a bus to Nagiso for JR back to Nagoya, or continue walking along Nakasendo to Nagiso (note train schedules). Another option is the Chuo Main Line (more budget-friendly, but experienced major delays when I went - JR might be more reliable)
Hiking Tips:
Just follow the crowd~
Don't forget to get your hiking certificate and stamps at the tourist information center - they make nice little souvenirs
