🗼A White Tower Transcending Time and Space, Spreading a Warm and Approachable Urban Future
The Tokyo Skytree's color design is based on the concept of "creating an urban landscape that transcends time and space: a fusion of traditional Japanese beauty and near-future design." Through careful consideration of its surroundings and its name, it employs an original color—"Skytree White" (#Skytree SkyTree White)—as its base color.
It is an original color based on "Aijiro," the palest shade of indigo dyeing in Japan.
#SkytreeWhite also mimics the color-mixing techniques of indigo dyeing artisans, adding a touch of blue to the white, giving the tower a porcelain-like appearance with a subtle blue tint and a delicate sheen.
This color was hand-mixed by artisans using traditional Japanese indigo dyeing techniques. The encounter between this traditional artisan culture of the old town (the site of the tower's construction) and the tower unveils a new cultural creation.
Clad in its signature "Tokyo Skytree White," the tower, bathed in the azure sky of Tokyo's old town, transcends time and space, poised to unleash an even more dazzling brilliance.
🗼🏗️ The Tokyo Skytree (Japanese: 東京スカイツリー, English: Tokyo Sky Tree) is a broadcasting tower built by Tobu Railways and Tobu Tower Sky Tree in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, Japan. It was designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando and sculptor Kiichi Sumikawa.
The Tokyo Skytree light show currently features three different themes, changing daily to express the continuous flow of time—today, tomorrow, and the future.
The lighting design cleverly incorporates elements of Edo-era architecture, showcasing the historical character of the old town (shitamachi) where the Skytree is located.
🚥🚥🚥🚥 The lighting themes are "粋" (Sui), themed around the waters of the Sumida River; "雅" (Ya), themed around Edo-era purple; and "旗" (Shiki), presented as a festival flag.
🩵💙 "粋" displays white light swaying like bubbles within pale blue light;
💜💜 "雅" presents a spiral of purple light rising upwards, like feathers fluttering;
🧡🧡 "旗" depicts a flag illuminated in orange, fluttering in a gentle breeze.
