Liqiao Water Town



The Liqiao Water Town scenic area, a national AAAA-rated tourist attraction, is located in Yian District, Tongling City, Anhui Province. Covering an area of 310 mu (approximately 51 acres) and representing a total investment of 960 million yuan, it comprises four functional areas: the water town, Manyuan Garden, the old street, and the residential area‌12. Liqiao Water Town preserves 119 ancient residential buildings and 8 ancient streets, with pavilions, terraces, and towers scattered along the water's edge. Historical structures within the scenic area include an ancient opera stage, an ancient county government office, an ancient embroidery building, a pawnshop, a watchtower, a Sanyuan Gate, an ancient ancestral hall, a study, a Thousand Buddha Pagoda, a Wenchang Pavilion, and a Dragon King Temple‌.

Liqiao Water Town not only showcases the style and layout of Hui-style architecture but also presents a concentrated display of Hui culture, regional culture, folk culture, and idyllic culture from Tongling and Anhui Province. With the introduction of intangible cultural heritage businesses such as copper craftsmanship, batik art, a coin museum, a pawnshop, and Hanfu (traditional Han Chinese clothing), the scenic area has been hailed as a "living museum," recreating the charm of Hui-style water towns‌.
