🧱Torun??? The City of the Teutonic Knights and Pierniks
Torun, a city with a well-preserved medieval history, is accessible by bus or train from Warsaw or Gdańsk.
It's perfect for a day trip or a two-day, one-night trip.
For buses, use the FLIX Bus app, and for trains, use the Jakdojade app.
⚠️The train station is a bit far from the city center, so the bus is better.
1. Arrival & Luggage Storage
Day trip during your trip?
Walk from the bus station to the Muzeum Etnograficzne, where you can drop off your luggage and begin your journey (5-minute walk).
2. Historical Exploration – Teutonic Knights
Teutonic Castle ruins: The remains of a castle built by the Knights still remain, giving you a sense of medieval atmosphere. While Torun was a central city in the Middle Ages, as the name "ruin" suggests, the number of survivors was small.
St. St. John's Cathedral: A well-preserved Gothic cathedral with exceptional stained glass for a small town.
Afterwards, stroll through the Old Town, exploring UNESCO-listed buildings and the area surrounding Copernicus's birthplace.
3. A Sweet Piernika Experience🍪
Muzeum Piernika = The Living Museum of Gingerbread: Experience making traditional gingerbread.
English explanations are only available once, at 2:00 PM, so reservations are recommended.
The tour runs in one-hour increments, lasting approximately 1.5 hours. Price: 42 PLN.
Experience and purchase a variety of gingerbread flavors and designs at Piernika specialty shops throughout the city.
4. Stroll through the Old Town
Take a leisurely stroll through the streets and squares, rich in medieval architecture.
There are plenty of photo opportunities, and small cafes and shops add to the enjoyment of your trip.
5. Conclusion
If you're a day trip, we recommend returning and departing in the evening. If you're staying overnight, we recommend staying at a hotel near the Old Town and enjoying the night view at your leisure.
