Gunung Bromo (Mount Bromo) is a small but active volcanic cinder cone on the Indonesian island of Java. Mount Bromo is located in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java, a mountainous highland ranging between 1,000 to 3,676m above sea level.

Mt Bromo volcano is a scenic tourist destination in East Java. The volcano is noted for its spectacular sunrises, and majestic views across to Semeru volcano to the south. Bromo is the only active crater in the Tengger caldera which contains seven eruptive centres. In 1838 the crater was filled with a lake.

At 2329 meters, this isn't the highest peak of Indonesia, but it is its most well known volcano. Its name, Bromo, derives from the Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu Creator God.
