In addition to playing on the beach and seeing the Tottori sand dunes, the Sand Museum is a must-visit attraction when traveling to Tottori! This trip will take you around Tottori's most characteristic Sand Museum, and feel the atmosphere of Western art created with sand! This time I saw the scene is really likely to be a sand sculpture like Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, the interior is large, the design is also very exquisite, the picture is very international. The best part is that the exhibits are different every year, even if you have been there, you can be surprised again ~ (can't touch your hands, be careful to follow the rules!)
[Itinerary Highlights]
- Annual limited themed sand sculpture exhibition
- The design of the exhibition hall is extremely exotic, great for taking pictures
- The sand sculpture is so delicate that even the architectural details are restored, super silly!
🔎 Attraction recommendations
1. The Art Gallery of Sand
This art gallery is the world's first permanent exhibition with the theme of "sand", changing sand sculptures with different themes every year (this year there is a Western architectural theme like Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris). Remember not to touch the exhibits when you are at the exhibition. You can't help but hold back even if you want to touch them. Protecting the works is the way to go!
📍 Address: 2083-17 Fukubechō Yuyama, Totori, 689-0105 Japan
⏰ Opening hours: 09:00-18:00 year-round
2. Shorehaven Point
If you still have time after a visit to the Sands Gallery, check out nearby Shorehaven Point, which offers sea views and natural rocks for a relaxing stroll. And along the way you will also see many trees and natural views, full of holiday feel.
🍽️ Food tips
There are many seafood and specialty restaurants in Tottori. When you visit the Museum of Art, you might as well reserve time to try Tottori Wagyu or Seafood Donburi. There are several small shops nearby, so you don't have to worry about eating. If you want convenience, you can also consider enjoying coffee at the cafe in the museum
🚗 Transportation guide
The Sando Museum is located near the Tottori Dunes and can be reached by bus or by car. There is a parking lot outside the museum.
📝 Practical tips
- Exhibits in the gallery should not be touched, be careful not to get too close or affect others when taking photos.
- The theme of the year is different, it is recommended to check what exhibits are available on the official website before departure, so that you will not miss the favorite model.
- There are opening time restrictions, early departure is recommended to avoid peak crowds.
This trip was really eye-opening after seeing the sand sculpture art. It turns out that a pile of sand can be made so artistic, and the Western architectural theme is strong!
