The Nakamachi area in Hirosaki City is an important traditional building preservation area with four buildings offering free admission: the Former Ito Family Residence, the Former Umeda Family Residence, the Former Atsu Family Residence, and the Former Iwata Family Residence. Free volunteer guides are stationed at each of these samurai residences, and stamps are available.

Although located adjacent to the bustling Hirosaki Park, the area itself is a quiet residential area, dotted with hedges, wooden fences, and gates, giving it a samurai atmosphere. The samurai residences are strategically located, offering views of Mt. Iwaki from the street, making them relatively off-the-beaten-path free historical attractions.
