Lake Toya and Mount Yotei: A Natural Double Wonder of Hokkaido

Lake Toya, a caldera lake, is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and surrounding hot springs. It offers stunning scenery throughout the year: cherry blossoms encircling the lake in spring, fireworks lighting up the summer nights, autumn leaves painting the shores, and snow blanketing the volcanic landscape in winter. The lake was formed approximately 110,000 years ago due to a volcanic eruption, and geothermal activity still persists on its islands. Nearby, Mount Yotei, often called "Ezo Fuji" for its resemblance to Mount Fuji, stands at an elevation of 1,898 meters. Its summit is snow-capped year-round, and its foothills are home to Kanrosui, one of Japan's top 100 natural water sources. Located about 40 kilometers apart, these two sites together create a breathtaking blend of lakeside beauty and geological wonders, making them must-visit natural treasures in central Hokkaido.
