Background
Shangri-La Rasa Ria is a sprawling beach resort located on Pantai Dalit, about 40–45 minutes from Kota Kinabalu International Airport and roughly 35 minutes from the city’s commercial district. It sits on 400 acres of tropical rainforest, edged by a 3km stretch of white sandy beach, and includes a 64-acre nature reserve (the Rasa Ria Reserve) where Sabah’s endemic flora and fauna thrive. Rooms and suites (≈ 494) are split between a Garden Wing, which offers privacy amid greenery, and an Ocean Wing, which adds higher luxury with sea views and premium amenities.
Why It’s Worth Visiting
This resort delivers both relaxation and abundant activity. Guests can unwind at multiple pools, enjoy the private lagoon beach, or take part in outdoor sports from water-skiing to paddleboarding. The nature reserve offers guided trails, bird-watching, sunrise or night walks, a discovery centre, and even wildlife viewing platforms for animals like western tarsiers, slow loris, macaques, and many butterflies. Dining options are varied, with six restaurants offering Malaysian, Japanese, Italian, and Indian flavours, plus more casual beachside and bar venues.
My Impression
Staying at Shangri-La Rasa Ria feels like being in two worlds at once: one foot in lush jungle and wildlife, the other by sea and sunset. Waking up in the Ocean Wing watching light glint over the water, then spending afternoons walking in the nature reserve or relaxing on the beach—there’s a rhythm here that gently slows you down. What stands out is how well the resort manages to maintain luxury and connection to nature: you feel indulged, not distant. If I had to pick a highlight, it’s that moment nearing dusk when the sky softens, the trees whisper, and the sea becomes a mirror—it makes you appreciate why this place draws people who want rest, beauty, and meaning in their holidays.
